How to crack IELTS reading?

Reading has never been our cup of tea. Completing it in an hour (60 minutes: 3 academic mega passages or 5 general reading passages ) is a challenge.

Tips to follow :

  • Accept that you have to spend first 3 days in getting the habit of reading.

  • Ensure that you don't depend on IELTS reading only to enhance reading skill; You may start by reading any blog or news related to your interest.

  • Keep noting down any vocabulary you come across and find out the meaning as well as synonyms.

  • In IELTS reading, you will notice, plenty of use of synonyms.

  • The order of questions from easy to difficult is:

Fill in the blanks

TRUE/ FALSE /NOT GIVEN

Which scientist/ person said what?

Multiple-choice questions

Match the suitable statement or heading to the respective paragraph.

  • Now when you start practicing, do not place the timer on the first day. First learn the strategies or tricks to solve the questions and once you understand them, then place the timer.

  • Fill in the blanks are always in order: You will find the answers to these in order in the passage; that does not mean each para will have answer but they will definitely be in order.

  • True/ False/ Not Given statements are always in order: You will find the answers to these in order in the passage; that does not mean each para will have answer but they will definitely be in order.

  • Skimming and scanning is possible when scanning the names of person in the passage, to match what they said.

  • For Headings: Do not trace the words! Whatever is the gist of the passage , which you could find in first and last line of the passage, would help.

THANK YOU
